A Mexican cardon cactus can live 300 years, which is about 50% longer than a saguaro which is more likely found in the U.S. The patina of an old cactus is so unique.
As they get older, they become less prickly (don’t you wish your cranky uncle was like that!), more smooth, and – quite curiously – grow young, vibrant, new arms while other crinkly arms fall to the ground. A perfect specimen of the cycle of life and death, all in one gigantic, sturdy plant.
