The Undergird of the Hummingbird.

To Indigenous cultures in both Baja and Santa Fe, the hummingbird (“colibri”) is a messenger of joy. It stands for intelligence, beauty, devotion, and love.

If you’re curious to learn more about hummingbirds (and are ready for a little jolt of joy this morning), I invite you to watch this short video featuring our new Ranch Foreman, Renso Sandoval. Renso works with Lee Johnson, who many of you know. In this video, Renso discusses the concept of the “stuck” paradigm exhibited by this lovely hummingbird. With wisdom and compassion, Renso observes how the tiny bird “kept doing the same thing over and over and wouldn’t try anything else…it got really worn out.”

Thankfully, Renso was able to be the “modern elder” for this hummingbird, mentoring him back to health.

We’re all hummingbirds in some ways, aren’t we? How often do we try the same thing over and over again, gradually wearing ourselves down? Who is your undergirding for support during those challenging times?

For those of you who’ve had the opportunity to experience MEA in person, you’re well aware of our good fortune in not only having skilled individuals but also soulful and wise people like Renso, Lee, Teddi, Alondra, Saul, Tony, Gio, and Gail among us.
