“Before I Die I Want To…”

June 17, 2021
What a profound six minutes! Cindy Chang’s soulful, cathartic TED talk about how she creates public spaces to encourage deep dialogue is a revelation. It has had almost 6 million views and I’d never heard of it until recently. I love that she turned an empty New Orleans home into a chalkboard for a community contemplation about something we rarely talk about.

She says, “Preparing for death is one of the most empowering things we can do.” No doubt: death is an organizing principle for life.

How would you fill out the community chalkboard if you stumbled upon it? Before I Die I Want To _____________. Here’s a brief video at Saul’s friend Alfredo’s oficina contemplating the three lists we might consider in life: “bucket,” “fuck it” (excuse my language), and “good luck it.”
