Reawaken your creative vitality and reconnect with the force that makes you feel alive, curious, and fully present.
You weren’t always cut off from your creativity.
Before you had words, you were already making meaning.
Through movement, you found rhythm before you knew what dance was.
Through color, sound, or arranging objects, you expressed what you couldn’t yet say.
Somewhere along the way, that instinct went quiet.Life became busy. Practical. Structured.
Creativity became something you admired in others but stopped claiming for yourself – a hobby, a talent for “artistic” people.
The cost of staying disconnected.
Without creativity, life starts to feel flat. You move through your days checking boxes but not quite feeling anything. The spark that once animated you – curiosity, wonder, aliveness – dims.
You might not notice what’s gone until something stops you:A song that stirs something deep.A sunset that steals your breath.A fleeting moment when your body remembers what it was made for.
If you keep pushing creativity aside, the days keep running together. Stress accumulates. Your energy drains. You lose the sense of connection that makes you feel fully alive.
What your body and mind have been asking for all along.
What you want isn’t another productivity trick or a push to “do more. ”What you need is a way back to the spark that makes you feel fully alive:
Two pioneers proving that creativity is medicine.
Susan Magsamen is a leading voice in neuroarts. She founded the International Arts + Mind Lab at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she leads research on how creative expression changes the brain and body.
Ivy Ross, Google’s Chief Design Officer and an award-winning designer, has spent decades exploring how aesthetics shape emotion, well-being, and human experience.
Together, they co-authored the New York Times bestseller Your Brain on Art, bringing cutting-edge science to a truth humans have long sensed: creativity is medicine.
Now they’re bringing their groundbreaking work to MEA’s Santa Fe campus at the world-class Riding Circle Ranch to share the science behind what your body already knows and to guide you through immersive practices that awaken your brain’s natural capacity to heal, connect, and flourish through creative expression.
During your three days with Susan and Ivy, you will…
Understand the neuroscience behind why your body craves creative expression and discover how just 45 minutes of art daily can lower your cortisol by up to 25%
Awaken your senses through sound, movement, visual expression, and storytelling. Shift from thinking to feeling as you engage your whole nervous system
Develop your Aesthetic Mindset – a way of seeing and sensing the world that deepens joy, presence, and vitality in every area of your life
Learn how creative practices rewire your brain, activating neuroplasticity and your body's innate capacity to heal, whether you're making art or simply beholding it
Personalized "art prescriptions" you can take home – practical daily rituals that support your mental and physical health, connection, and flourishing
Experience all of this in MEA's intimate Santa Fe setting, where luxury accommodations, exceptional hospitality, and direct access to Susan and Ivy create the perfect conditions for transformation

Is For You If…
Meet Your Faculty
People stopped making art because they felt they weren’t ‘good at it’. It’s not about being proficient at something. It’s the act of doing it that changes the brain and body.

Ivy Ross
Google’s Chief Design Officer of Consumer Devices | Co-Author of Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us | Named one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business
Ivy Ross brings a rare blend of artistic vision and scientific curiosity to everything she creates. At Google, she leads all design for the company's consumer hardware, combining function with beauty and emotion to create products that feel as good as they look.
Her path has been anything but traditional. A jewelry designer by training, Ivy has held senior creative leadership roles at Calvin Klein, Gap, Mattel, and Disney, always asking: How does what we make shape how we feel?
Her work lives at the intersection of neuroscience, design, and human-centered innovation. She believes creativity is one of the most underutilized medicines in modern life, and she's passionate about helping people reawaken their aesthetic sense in both their inner and outer worlds.
The way in which the arts are reinforced in the brain – through reward, pleasure, and fear circuitry – confirms their link to our survival as a species.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for anyone curious about the science behind creativity and ready to explore how the arts can support brain health, emotional well-being, and vitality. You don’t need any artistic background or skill. If you’re navigating a transition, feeling disconnected from yourself, or simply want to understand why your body craves creative expression, this is for you.
Do I need to be "good at art" to participate?
Absolutely not. This isn’t about talent, skill, or making “good” art. It’s about understanding how your brain and body respond to creative practices, whether you’re making art or simply experiencing it. Everyone can benefit from these tools, regardless of artistic background.
What does "science-based" actually mean?
Susan and Ivy will share cutting-edge research from neuroaesthetics and neuroscience that shows how creative practices literally change your brain chemistry, nervous system, and physical health. But this isn’t a lecture series. The science is woven into hands-on experiences so you can feel the effects in real time.
What kinds of activities will we actually be doing?
You’ll experience a mix of practices including gentle movement, sound exploration, visual journaling, collage, expressive writing, and storytelling. Everything is designed to be accessible and inviting. You’ll have choices throughout, so you can follow what feels right for your body and comfort level.
Will I have to share my creative work with the group?
Only if you want to. There will be opportunities for group sharing and reflection, but participation is always voluntary. Some exercises are collaborative, while others are deeply personal. You get to decide what feels safe and meaningful to share.
I'm dealing with trauma or grief. Is this workshop appropriate for me?
The workshop explores how creative practices support healing and emotional regulation, and many participants find it deeply supportive during difficult times. However, this is not therapy or clinical treatment. If you’re currently in acute crisis, we recommend speaking with our team first to ensure this is the right fit for where you are.
Can I come with a partner or friend, or is this better solo?
Either works beautifully. Some people come solo for personal exploration, while others bring a partner or friend. The experience includes both individual reflection and group activities, so you’ll benefit regardless of whether you come alone or with someone.
What will I actually take home?
You’ll leave with a personalized “art prescription” – daily creative practices tailored to support your mental and physical health. You’ll also gain a scientific understanding of why these practices work, an Aesthetic Mindset to carry into everyday life, and practical tools you can use immediately.
What if I have physical limitations or mobility concerns?
All activities can be adapted to different physical abilities. You won’t be required to do anything that feels uncomfortable or inaccessible. Let us know about any concerns when you register, and we’ll make sure you’re fully supported.
What's included in the tuition?
All programming with Susan and Ivy, three nights of luxury lodging at MEA’s Santa Fe campus, chef-prepared meals, beverages, snacks, and all materials for creative activities. The only additional costs are your travel to Santa Fe and any personal purchases.
