What is “Longevity Escape Velocity” and Do I Want This?

Nowadays, there are a lot of products being marketed to enhance your Longevity Escape Velocity (LEV), which is the idea that a person’s life expectancy can increase at a faster rate than their biological aging. For example, if you were 55 with a life expectancy of 86 and achieved Longevity Escape Velocity, your life expectancy could rise to 88 (or higher) by the time you turn 56, adding a year or more to your life span.

More and more people are comparing their biological age to their chronological one, and, of course, there are all kinds of tests that you can now purchase to determine this. Who knows, maybe employers will want to see your biological age marker in the future. Perhaps we’ll choose our Presidents this way?

Remarkably, men make up the vast majority of those who are curiously obsessed with epigenetic remodeling. 90% of the attendees at biohacking longevity conferences are male. Why? Maybe it’s because men imagine themselves as Superman-invincible and lack the obvious midlife age marker, such as menopause, experienced by women. While possible, here’s my take: Biohacking and LEV are just data-driven wellness with toys. And we all know how men love their toys! Put another way; this is just “Popular Mechanics” for our bodies. Men also love the idea that they can be virile forever.

But really, who wants to live forever if you can’t have the occasional margarita?

P.S. Since MEA’s opening, we’ve committed that at least 50% of our Baja workshop compadres be offered some form of financial aid. To date, almost 55% of our Baja alums have received financial aid. Your donations to AGE, our affiliated non-profit, help remove barriers to access for future MEA scholarship recipients.

We’ve just received an anonymous donor who’s given a $50,000 AGE donation with a 1:1 match. This means if you give $2,500 your donation is worth $5,000 since it’ll be matched so you provide access to two scholarship recipients (we can then offer our most generous scholarship, the Platinum level, to someone). The $100,000 we will raise (with the anonymous donor and the match) means we can offer 40 more scholarships this year!

Your donation is tax-deductible in the U.S. Any donation amount makes an incredible difference! Look for more information to donate here and check out the video of scholarship recipients HERE.
