Are Acronyms Lazy or Liberating?

I remember the first time I saw the acronym for the Institute for Retired Professional, IRP. Wow, that felt a little too close to RIP! Not sure people later in their career want to join a school that reminds them of a tombstone.

Most of us are interested in “Living In Peace,” but that’s giving LIP service to life. And, of course, we’ve heard a lot about SIP lately, Shelter in Place. But, some of us have been sipping too much of the hard stuff in quarantine.

Which brings me to the Modern Elder Academy, now better known as MEA. It’s shorter. That’s good. It also is the first three letters of the word “meaning” which we search for later in life. Yes, some pronounce it “me a” as in Spanglish for “me a retired.” But, overall, it works so much better than these other ones below. What are some of your funniest acronyms?
