At some point, many of us come to a reluctant but honest realization: The way we’ve been working is no longer sustainable.
It often sounds like this:
“I didn’t plan to step back. But I can’t keep going like this.”
“I still love my work—but I can’t keep up this pace.”
For some, that turning point comes with motherhood. We never imagined that having children—something so central and non-negotiable—might come at the cost of our careers. And yet, here we are: trying to be everything to everyone, and feeling like we’re failing on all fronts.
For others, it’s caregiving—parents aging faster than we expected, partners facing health issues, or a loved one who needs more of us than we thought we had to give.
For many, it’s burnout. Or simply a shift in values. A voice that says:
“My life is worth more than my LinkedIn profile.”
After 20 years of running my own business, I’ve had hundreds of these conversations. With women who are smart, accomplished, loyal — women who have always pushed through. But now, they’re at a tipping point. Not because they’ve lost ambition—but because they’ve redefined what ambition looks like.
They still want to contribute. They still have so much to offer.
But they’re done bending themselves to fit into a model that was never designed for them in the first place. And frankly? They’re tired of feeling like they are the problem.
At the same time, I’ve met incredible founders and leaders—many of them women—who get it.
They’re building cultures that honor flexibility, designing roles that don’t require 60-hour weeks, and actively searching for talent that’s been pushed to the margins by outdated expectations.
The problem is: these two groups—remarkable women and forward-thinking workplaces—often can’t find each other.
That’s why we created WOMEN+WORKPLACES—a curated, values-aligned community where women who are seeking flexible, meaningful work can connect with organizations that actually offer it.
This is not a gig marketplace or a job board. It’s not about “leaning in” harder. It’s about redefining what thriving looks like, and building relationships that support both human lives and business goals.
If you’re a woman who’s:
- Ready to contribute, but on terms that reflect your reality,
- Looking for part-time, project-based, or flexible work that respects your expertise,
- Done pretending that burnout is a badge of honor,
…then this is for you.
And if you’re a workplace leader who’s:
- Committed to flexibility as more than a buzzword,
- Looking for exceptional talent without demanding 60-hour weeks,
- Interested in learning how others are doing it well,
…then this is for you, too.
As Chip Conley might say, this isn’t only about work. It’s about wisdom. It’s about designing lives (and companies) that feel more human, more spacious, and more sustainable.
We’re in the early stages—testing, learning, and gathering our founding members. Right now, it’s completely free to join. Eventually we will discern how to cover our costs, but for now, our goal is simply to build momentum and help as many people as we can.
Here’s how to join:
- Visit the WOMEN+WORKPLACES website
- Click “Apply Now” at the bottom to tell us whether you’re looking for work or representing a workplace
- Watch for your invite to our online community and start connecting, sharing, and shaping the future of work—for all of us.
You don’t have to choose between full-time or no-time.
You can choose a better way.
Not just for yourself—but for your daughters, your nieces, and generations to come.
We’re building that better way now.
