Caryn Lerman, PhD
Caryn Lerman, PhD is a clinical psychologist, scientist, and writer whose work explores the intersections of science, spirituality, and human transformation. As a Distinguished Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California and Director of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Caryn has spent decades advancing the understanding of psychology, addiction, and cancer—publishing over 400 scientific articles and pioneering a new research program on psilocybin mushrooms for healing and growth.
A proud MEA alum, Caryn brings a deeply personal lens to her professional path. Her passion for travel, hiking, and time with her husband Troy and two spirited pups, Darwin and Floki, grounds her work in joy and connection.
She’s currently working on her first novel and continues to explore the power of storytelling and self-inquiry as tools for awakening. At MEA’s workshop for Cancer Thrivers: “From Survive to Thrive”, Caryn draws on both her scientific and clinical expertise and lived experience to co-create with Chip a space of meaning, purpose, and possibility for those navigating life after cancer
