Evelyn Neaman
Evelyn Neaman is a Vancouver-based program leader, educator, filmmaker, and wellness practitioner with more than 30 years of experience advancing access to justice in Canada and internationally.
During her tenure with the Justice Education Society, Evelyn designed and led complex justice initiatives and training programs involving the public, judiciary, lawyers, and police. Her work has taken her across Canada and to Ethiopia, Central America, Guyana, and Vietnam, where she managed justice programs focused on access to justice, public trust and confidence, and judicial reform.
Evelyn is also an accomplished storyteller. Together with Stephen Herman, she has created documentaries and success stories that illuminate the human dimension of justice work, translating complex institutional change into compelling narratives. This experience informs her work on the documentary Retirement on Trial, for which she served as producer, writer, and director. Drawing on her background in cultural anthropology and curriculum design, as well as her own experience navigating career transition, Evelyn brings a unique lens to the film’s exploration of the “culture of retirement” and the ways identity, purpose, and community evolve in later career stages.
In addition to her work in justice and film, Evelyn is a seasoned wellness practitioner. For more than 25 years, she has taught yoga and mindfulness practices to diverse audiences, including judges and lawyers, locally and internationally. She brings particular insight into developing stress-management practices for those working in the legal field and runs a boutique yoga studio in Vancouver.
