The Power of Giving.

In the midst of a global supply chain disruption that is wreaking havoc on our holiday shopping plans, what if we used tomorrow, Giving Tuesday, as a day to contemplate how we invest our time, energy and money to make the world a better place?

For those of you who appreciate Wisdom Well or have a fondness for MEA’s commitment to socio-economic diversity with our Baja programs, we encourage you to check out our affiliated non-profit AGE, the Association for Growth and Education, which donates to MEA and other institutions that offer education to mid-lifers.

AGE has taken an active role in helping to fund our whole Activist in Residence 2021 Sabbatical Sessions season which has allowed us to provide restoration, reflection, and recognition for nine activists who make a difference in the world, almost all of them focusing on issues of aging and intergenerational collaboration.

AGE has also helped MEA by funding scholarships for those who couldn’t join us in Baja without financial assistance. Over the past four years, this has allowed MEA to offer nearly $2 million in scholarships. Here’s some data that will give you a sense of our diversity performance for workshop programs in Baja which shows that almost 25% of our students are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) which is far higher than is typical for US-based personal growth retreat centers.

I want to thank past donors and welcome others to support AGE on Giving Tuesday at this donation link. The first $25,000 will be matched so your $100 translates into $200 of support for this worthy cause. Because AGE is a 501(c)3 and your donation is tax-deductible in the U.S., some of you have donated as much as $5,000 or $10,000 in the past which is very generous. If we raise $50,000 from this effort, that allows us to give another 20 scholarships for Baja workshops at our most generous level (which is a small portion of our total scholarship need, but we think this is doable for our Giving Tuesday goal).

If you’re not inclined to donate to AGE, we encourage you to consider giving to a cause tomorrow that you feel passionately about.
