Recreation or Re-Creation?

May 7, 2021
Retirement is to regeneration what recreation is to re-creation. Sixty years ago upon their advent, retirement communities promised endless leisure in an age-apartheid gated neighborhood with your home facing a fairway. Today, regenerative communities are offering programs that help you repurpose yourself in intergenerational villages with your home facing a farm.

What a difference!

While recreation and re-creation are not mutually-exclusive, the latter promises the elixir of life. An alchemical cocktail of curiosity and wisdom, garnished with fresh sprigs of a beginner’s mind, creativity, and service. To regenerate is to make new again. To retire is to withdraw into seclusion.

You won’t find me living in a retirement community, but I look forward to living in a regenerative community. Look forward to you being my neighbor.
