“Wisdom is as Natural to our Soul as is Breathing to our Body.”

At our annual MEA leadership retreat, our mindfulness teacher Teddi Dean spouted the line that is the title of today’s post. Dude, you’re deep!!

We know a body can’t live without breath, but can a soul live without wisdom? Throughout history, the soul has been considered a person’s eternal and innermost essence. Without a soul, maybe you’re just a body and a personality. Like the soul, wisdom feels deeply stored inside oneself. Without wisdom, one is purely facts and knowledge.

Wisdom is often seen as a manifestation or expression of the soul’s inherent qualities. It is believed the soul, connected to a higher or transcendent reality, has access to profound insights and understanding that go beyond the limitations of ordinary knowledge. Through the cultivation of wisdom, one can tap into this deeper wisdom of the soul.

Ok, wise guy, so how do you do this?

You can start by turning to Jimi Hendrix, who said, “Knowledge speaks and wisdom listens.”

Put another way; wisdom needs elbow room. It requires space for it to come through you. Many of the practices we offer at MEA are meant to be a Roto-Rooter of your wisdom pipeline to your soul, whether it’s speaking from the “third vault” in Circle or taking an awe-walk to become a “first-class noticer” or meditating listening to the crashing waves. Your intuition offers you the breadcrumbs to your soul. Start there. Start listening to your intuition a little more.

For the next month, create a Google doc with any gut instincts or intuitions that may arise. Pay particular attention to when you wake up in the morning and have unfiltered dreams still dancing in your head. With time, your wisdom will be on the tip of your tongue.
