Since our community has been so “fired up” over all the sex talk happening on Wisdom Well, I thought I’d share some news from Rising Circle Ranch.
We’ve recently adopted two new elder geldings, who’ve been together for 14 years but not exposed to other horses or much pasture time. It’s thrilling to watch them delight in space and companionship… and sexy time.
One of our mares, Sierra, is currently in estrus. (TLDR: a state of sexual receptivity.)
Someone forgot to tell these older, castrated boys that they are mature geldings. There was so much excitement in the pasture the other day that I immediately called Lee. “Are you sure they are geldings? They are acting like stallions. There are a lot of boners in this field right now.”
Cortez and Rocky jostled each other, competing for her attention, flirting, biting, nuzzling, and pushing each other around the pasture. It was like watching teenagers at a mall food court. (80’s suburban mall reference – are you with me?)
Jo, our ranch manager, eventually separated them for everyone’s sanity. And safety.
Also notable is Stryder, nicknamed Fabio for his long blonde mane, and also a 20-year-old gelding, who is totally oblivious to the hormone-charged atmosphere. He’s been blissfully pastured with Sierra for the last few days. Unfazed and unmoved.
Whatever the magical combination of place, state, nutrition, biology, health, and stimulus is creating the conditions for such an unexpected ruckus, we have now crowned the gorgeous Cortez our Patron Saint of Senior Sexuality, Equine Division.
