“I want to make a difference.”
We hear this all the time from our workshop alumni who are making the shift from pursuing a life of success to a life of significance.
How can we, as heart-centered humans on this planet, make an impact and touch the lives of others in a meaningful way?
It’s an important question to ask – especially when you’re in midlife.
That’s because living a life of purpose and being of service to others doesn’t just make you feel happier, more useful, and more connected to the world.
The latest research into midlife and aging proves that living with purpose can actually help you live a longer and healthier life.
Studies show that older adults who have a clear sense of purpose experience higher levels of psychological well-being, better brain functioning through neuroplasticity, and more resilience as they age.
On the flip side, people who don’t have a clear sense of purpose have a higher risk of experiencing depression or dementia later in life.
The good news is, purpose doesn’t come from making grandiose gestures or winning public acclaim. You just need to touch another person’s heart.
Whether you’re mentoring, volunteering, creating art, or becoming a political activist, doing work that benefits others with compassion, empathy, and kindness is a powerful way to experience the meaning and fulfillment that so many of us crave at this stage of life.
By committing your time and energy to something larger than yourself, you open the door to lasting fulfillment that can make your life richer and more rewarding for many years to come.
